Welcome to Philip's Footprints.

Since our small beginnings in 2008 offering baby loss memory boxes to parents in Jersey and Guernsey maternity wards, we are proud to have grown into a charity that both supports bereaved parents AND promotes safer pregnancies for all.

No parent should have to walk out of hospital with a memory box instead of their baby and our new projects will make sure that more babies get to go home.

Supporting parents who have lost a baby

We provide baby loss memory boxes to families in the Channel Isles facing the loss of their baby from 12-14 weeks gestation, for babies who are too sick, too small or are stillborn. At a time when clear thinking is impossible, these memory boxes help parents create as many precious memories as possible in the short time available and allow parents to share their baby's memories with loved ones. To date we have given over 200 memory boxes to Channel Island families. We also supply memory boxes for the children's wards.

Our Lights of Love Christmas candlelit carol service, held in early December, gives parents an opportunity for reflection, to opportunity to remember and honour our babies, before the hectic festive period begins. (Guernsey SANDS offer a similar Christmas service.)

We support parents with a listening ear and a true understanding of how it feels to lose a baby - weeks, months and years after the event.

Promoting Safer Pregnancies

We sponsor cutting edge training for health professionals to promote best practice and improve the safety in the care of pregnant women and their unborn and new born babies.

We purchase "wellbeing wallets" designed to hold hand held pregnancy notes that all mums-to-be carry with them. The wallets ensures that key messages regarding health, diet, monitoring babies' movements and when to call the midwife become second nature. Feedback from the UK proves this information has saved little lives.

This year will see a very exciting launch of a joint charity appeal in Jersey, the Baby Bean Appeal,  fundraising for wireless fetal monitors for Jersey Maternity. As well as providing continuous monitoring of the health and safety of baby, mothers can move freely during every stage of labour and it offers flexible birthing options, such as water births and natural delivery after c-section. Evidence also shows mothers who are mobile have significantly shorter labour lengths and we anticipate a reduction in the number of caesarean sections as being mobile and upright is the optimum position for shorter labours and successful natural births.

"We wished you could have stayed with us, We loved you from the start.
Now all we have are memories, And your footprints on our hearts."

Whilst we have a public page on Facebook we also offer a private support group for more personal comments, thoughts, questions, poems, quotes etc. (This means your Facebook friends cannot see you are a member and cannot see your posts, unless you have a friend who is already in the group). If you have been affected by the loss of a baby and would like to join, please use the Contact form or email jo@philipsfootprints.org to request to join.
